Repurposing

"Don't throw that away! My mom can make something out of that!"  --  Christine, upon seeing Aunt Karleen throw away a broken Christmas tree ornament.

I made this when Christine was very young.  There are great pockets on old, inexpensive thrift store jeans.  Sew the legs together for the larger piece then sew the pockets onto that using the existing stitching on the seams as  a guide.  We've used it to organize office supplies, doll clothes and accessories and bathroom gadgets.

Desk organizer made out of candlesticks, metal bowls and a porcelain cup glued together with Gorilla glue.  (I don't think it's going to hold if I drop it.)

When Christine was little, she and I would engage in some kind of fun activity after I returned from work around noon.  This was one of them.  An inexpensive vase from the thrift store covered with grout.  And all of the little odds and ends that collect when you have a little girl were pressed into it.  It's a tactile and visual treat.

What better place to store plates in the kitchen than an old metal mailbox?
